Orbital Focus Privacy Policy
Summary: Orbital Focus has no user accounts and collects no personally identifying data. Your progress stays on your device (and, only if you turn it on, in your own iCloud). We use anonymous analytics to understand how the app is used, and our payments provider for purchases.
What we collect
Very little, and never anything that identifies you. Orbital Focus has no user accounts and no advertising. Two service providers process limited, anonymous data on our behalf:
- Purchases. If you buy or restore Premium, RevenueCat processes your App Store purchase and a random per-install identifier so what you bought can be delivered and restored.
- Analytics. Mixpanel records anonymous usage (which features and flows you use, and milestones like missions and purchases) tied to a random per-install identifier, so we can improve the app.
Neither is used to track you across other apps or websites, and neither receives your name, email, or Apple ID.
Analytics (anonymous)
We use Mixpanel to measure how Orbital Focus is used: for example that a mission was started or completed, that the paywall was shown, or that a purchase was made, along with a non-identifying snapshot of your progress (such as your rank and whether you have Premium). This is keyed only to a random identifier for your installation. It does not include your name, the pilot name or mission notes you type, your contacts, your location, or any advertising identifier (IDFA), and it is never used for cross-app or cross-site tracking. Mixpanel's privacy policy: https://mixpanel.com/legal/privacy-policy
Premium purchases (optional)
Orbital Focus is free; Premium (monthly, yearly, or lifetime) is optional. A purchase is made through Apple's App Store and managed for us by RevenueCat, Inc. RevenueCat receives your App Store transaction and a random identifier for your installation so the purchase can be validated and restored on your devices. It does not receive your name, email, or Apple ID, and the data is not used for advertising or cross-app tracking. RevenueCat's privacy policy: https://www.revenuecat.com/privacy
What stays on your device
Your mission history, focus statistics, streaks, achievements, rocket unlocks, and settings are stored in a local file inside the app's private storage on your iPhone. Deleting the app deletes the data. If you use iCloud device backups, Apple may include this file in your encrypted device backup under Apple's own terms.
iCloud Sync (optional)
If you turn on iCloud Sync in Settings, the app stores a copy of your own progress (launches, ranks, streaks) in your private iCloud storage so it can follow you to a new device. This uses Apple's iCloud under Apple's privacy policy; it goes only to your iCloud account, and we cannot access it. Turn it off at any time in Settings.
Apple Maps (Cupola view)
The optional in-flight Cupola view displays Apple Maps satellite imagery. Map tiles are loaded by Apple's MapKit framework under Apple's privacy policy; Orbital Focus sends no personal data with these requests and receives none back. The rest of the app works fully offline.
Live ISS position (automatic, no personal data)
As an easter egg, the home globe shows the International Space Station at its real current location. About once a day, the app fetches the station's public orbital data (a tiny two-line element set) from a small server we run that caches the public CelesTrak feed. These requests send no personal data. The result is cached on your device. We keep no logs of these requests.
Your location (optional)
If you choose "Home = My Location" (Settings → Home Globe), Orbital Focus uses your device's location to center the home globe on you and show a "you are here" pulse. Your location is used only on your device for that purpose. It is never sent anywhere, never stored off your device, and never linked to you. If you don't grant location access, the globe centers on your chosen launch site instead.
Screen Time (Launch Lockdown)
If you enable Launch Lockdown, Orbital Focus uses Apple's Screen Time technology (the FamilyControls framework) to temporarily shield apps you choose while a focus session is running. Apple's design makes your selections invisible to us: the app receives only anonymous tokens and cannot see which apps you selected or how you use your device. This information never leaves your device and is never collected, stored remotely, shared, or sold by us or anyone else. You can revoke Screen Time permission at any time in iOS Settings.
Notifications
If you enable reminders, notifications are scheduled locally on your device. We operate no push-notification servers.
Live Activities
Mission progress shown on your Lock Screen and in the Dynamic Island is rendered entirely from data on your device.
Children
Orbital Focus is rated 4+. We collect no personally identifying data from anyone, including children. The only data processed is anonymous usage analytics (via Mixpanel, keyed to a random per-install identifier) and, if you choose to buy Premium, App Store purchase data (via RevenueCat).
Changes
If a future version ever changes any of the above, we will update this policy and the App Store privacy label before that version ships.
